In the last decades, the intensive urbanisation of Dakar City, has determined several problems related with water resources management. In particular the hydraulic risk of the peri-urban areas called “le banlieux” has notably increased with catastrophic effects. In fact, since the 2005, the area has been subject to many floods that have caused serious damages and economic losses.
In this contest the Senegalese government has determined to face the problem trough the development and implementation of an “Integrated water resources development and managemen plan”.
The project main object has been the development of a preliminary study for the identification of the priority lines of action for the water resources management and the reduction of the hydraulic risk.
In the development of the study, BETA Studio has adopted an integrated approach, in order to take into account technical, environmental, social and economic aspects related to water resources management and in order to propose a sustainable model for the water resources development and management for the peri-urban areas of Dakar.
