The waterway Padova-Venezia is a hydraulic structure conceived at the beginning of the 60s in order to connect the industrial zone of Padova to the Lagoon of Venice with a total length of 28 km. The project supports the Italian Government in adopting a comprehensive approach to Disaster Risk Management (DRM) through its activities related to urban flood risk management, Early Warning Systems (EWS), and financial preparedness.

The waterway will strengthen urban flood risk management, sustainable development, and resilient urban planning.

The main project outcomes are several: besides working as a navigable channel (up to boat of class Va), constitutes a flood control system of the Brenta-Bacchiglione block, and proves to be particularly helpful for the local environment, as it turns to work as a balancing factor for the Lagoon of Venice and as an environmental restoring tool for the surrounding territory. This flood risk management measure outlined above will be complemented with green and non-structural measures, including improved urban planning, land-use, eco-friendly solutions, institutional capacity-building and coordination on integrated flood risk management, and better operations and maintenance of flood protection systems. BETA Studio was appointed to design the aforementioned navigation channel.
