The floods retention basin of Carsoli (L’Aquila province, Italy) is operational: last heavy rain on December 21th caused first important ‘start in action’ of the recently built civil work. Basin was designed by BETA Studio to defend the settlement downstream, allowing to retain about 330000 m³ of T. Vallemura water during river floods. At the end of floods, the release of the water is done in a controlled way trough special hydraulic outfall work. The overall effects of the operation by retention basin and of the other hydraulic defense works, designed in the urban area, allow to significantly decrease the effects due to intense meteoric events.
The work was designed by BETA Studio which also conducted works supervision.
